Introduction

Most people are repelled by the creepy feeling at their back when they find desolated and abandoned houses. While most turn away as soon as possible, some manage to overcome the fear and give in to their exploration instincts. According to Mark Roemer, there are plenty of strange things that urban explorers and regular folks have found in abandoned houses. Here’s a list of them:

The Things

1. Masked inanimate doll — At a glance, this would creep out and instill fear into the best of us. A masked little girl with sickly pale skin leaning against a run-down wall while sitting on a dirty floor in dirty clothes. Scream is the obvious response here. However, a second careful glance would reveal it to be an inanimate doll instead of a child. However, when you come across this figure in a spooky abandoned building you probably wouldn’t stick around to give it a long careful second glance.

2. Creepy cradles — Most of us are aware of the massive 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl. However, the damage of the catastrophe wasn’t restricted to just that nuclear plant or that city. The disaster also affected thousands of people in the nearby Pripyat, currently a Ukrainian city. That makes a lot of people, especially photographers curious about the city and one of them captured a chilling image with abandoned baby beds in a hospital. One of the beds even had a bottle on it and it makes you wonder about the fate of the unfortunate babies during that time.

3. A wired mess — Dolls and baby beds aren’t the only things that can spook you out in abandoned buildings. Instead, it becomes creepier if you lack all context and things seem absolutely unexplainable. A photographer took a picture of a mess of barbed wires inside a run-down abandoned psychiatric hospital in New York. it gives rise to plenty of questions including, “What’s the barbed wire doing inside a hospital?”, “Was it a draconian way to keep patients from misbehaving?”.

4. A bathtub of brains — The photo of the bathtub filled with brains was taken in an abandoned hospital’s basement located somewhere in the US. The photo shows a nerve-wracking picture of brains, quite a lot of them floating inside a brown liquid in a bathtub. When the picture surfaced, it was thought to be fake. However, after authorities took action it was discovered to be a result of lack in storage infrastructure instead of psychotic murder mystery.

5. Creepy collection of dolls — Imagine discovering a huge collection of naked dolls in an abandoned petting zoo. That’s what a group of explorers discovered in one of their adventures. It raises a lot of questions since the place and items don’t belong together in any way.

Conclusion

Mark Roemer suggests that you don’t go out in such spooky explorations. Even nerves of steel would falter with such discoveries. However, they hold a lot of mysterious past and enigma that will keep attracting new generations of urban explorers.
